"I don`t believe we (The Cream) felt that we were doing anything earth shattering at all. If anything, we felt we were happily fitting into the scene. Music at the time was very psychedelic, and jazz was being incorporated into the way rock & roll was being made... and then you had all the American groups that were breaking ground then, like the Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead. We sort of felt that we fit into that ... after we`d broken up, I was always suspicious about people who talked about the group as a legend .. obviously, Cream spawned a wealth of musical directions, but I don`t want to be held responsible for some of them ..(laughs)" - Eric Clapton / Yardbirds / Blues Breakers /Cream / Blind Faith / Derek and the Dominoes
